VR Veterans Club Secretary Secretary Reports

Veteran’s Club Meeting Minutes, Dec. 11, 2022

Following breakfast, and the Pledge of Allegiance, the meeting was called to order by President Goody Morrison. There were 39 members in attendance. Treasurer Steve Rosenberg reported that after a donation of $4,000.00 to the Wounded Veteran’s relief Fund, $995 for the VR Plaque, and $600 to Kings Academy, there is a balance of $4296.19 less $185.47 in Fl sales tax due. This was followed by the secretary’s report that the minutes of the previous meeting had been posted to the club’s website. Motions to accept and seconded were made and approved by the membership. Jules Harper as donation chairman indicated that the Earl Stewart donations had yielded $1,000, and the donations of $7,000 to the WVRF totaled $165,000 to date. Mike Heisserman reported on the Veteran’s Car Show and noted that the parking fees alone at the last car show brought in $1,200. He asked for volunteers for the next car show. He needs help with parking, registering participants and general ushering. He plans to have a food truck and a DJ for the event. Steve Osterman gave his report as chairman of the blood drive. There were 38 blood donors and 1 platelet donor. He, also, asked for volunteers to help with the next blood drive. Mike Silverman reported on the plaque project which honors those Valencia Reserve Veterans who passed away. He showed the plaque which is to be displayed in the VR showcase. Mike also mentioned that his co-chairman of the plaque project, Dennis Flier had been admitted to the hospital following a fall. The election followed and Steve Osterman was elected to the Board of Directors. This was followed by a presentation by Richard Gorden who served in Vietnam as a physician with a paratroop division. He showed very graphic pictures of the effects of the battles and changes which took place on the troops from the beginning of their tour of duty to the end. It was a very eye opening depiction of the nature of war. This was followed by the 50/50 raffle, and the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Cal Hunter, Secretary
