Veteran’s Club Board Meeting Minutes September 22, 2022

The meeting was called to order at 4:00PM by President Goody Morrison. The following members were present: Dennis Flier Howard Berger, Tom Nowak, David Cohen, Tom Wood, Mike Silverman, Howard Rock, Cal Hunter, and Mike Heiserman as Car Show Chairman. The Secretary’s report indicated that the minutes of the previous meeting had been posted to the club’s website. A motion was made by Dennis Flier, seconded by Mike Silverman, and unanimously approved by the members. Goody read an email from Brian Glenn indicating that he will resign from his post as a member of the Veteran’s Club Board of Directors because of his commitment to the HOA. Goody then asked Mike Heiserman to rejoin the board in his place. He agreed and a motion was made by Dennis Flier and seconded by Howard Berger to accept him on the board. The motion was passed unanimously by the members. Goody announced that he has been contacted by Jules Harper that the Wounded Veteran’s Relief Fund will host a ball during which a donation of $5,000 would be matched. A motion was made by Mile Heiserman and seconded by Howard Berger to provide a check for that amount. In the absence of Treasurer David Weissman, Goody indicated that the club balance was $7,160 and an additional $2,000 would be coming in from golf sales and the use of Earl Stewart’s boat. Money was to be allocated for Fred Paul for breakfast expenses and the Saturday night dance dessert expenses. Mike Silverman next spoke about the creation of a memorial plaque for deceased Valencia Reserve veterans. The plaque would include the names and the branch of service and would be displayed selected occasions. Mike Silverman and Mike Heiserman will research the procurement of the plaque and the wording of the inscription. Goody noted that Mike Kapel would speak at the Nov.11th ceremony at the flagpole, and present a one-act play that he had written. Kings Academy will present a 15 member choir on Nov, 17 and will perform in the social hall with theater seating. A motion was made by Mike Heiserman and seconded by Tom Wood that only dessert would be provided and admission is to be $15.00 per person. The motion was passed. Mike Heiserman announced that Mark Schwartz had been very ill, and was now doing much better. He will soon start a new round of chemo-therapy. Closing remarks: Next Saturday night at the Club’s dance flags would be displayed and the décor will honor Ukraine. Members were requested to help set up tables in the social hall at 1:00 PM on Saturday. The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 PM. Minutes submitted by Cal Hunter, Secretary
