VR Veterans Club Secretary Secretary Reports

Veteran's Club Meeting Minutes From September 11, 2016

Our Sunday breakfast meeting opened at 0900 with 49 members in attendance. Total club membership is 168. Vice President Goody Morrison chaired this month's meeting since President Jules Harper was on travel.

An informal "Meet and Greet" was held from 0800 to 0820.

Formal business commenced at 0820 with the "Pledge of Allegiance".

The Secretary's Report was presented and the minutes of our last meeting were voted upon and accepted by the membership.

The Treasurer's Report was presented. It was noted that we currently have a cash balance on hand of $3,069.00. Checks for seventy-five attendees totaling $1,650.00 have been received for the Veteran's Day Party and are pending deposit. We expect that the Party will be a sell out.

Blood Drive Chairman Tom Conklin provided an update on the upcoming Blood Drive scheduled for October 28, between 0900 and 1600. Volunteers were solicited to help with the event. To date we have been averaging approximately 50 pints of blood collected at our previous blood drives. This year we are hoping to collect between 60 to 70 pints. Platelets will be collected as well as whole blood. Donors may sign up in advance for a scheduled appointment. Walk-ins will also be welcomed.

Veteran's Day Party and Auction Committee Chairman Les Ungerleider provided an update on preparations for the auction at our Veteran's Day Dance. Although a number of auction items have been secured, many more are still needed. He encouraged members to try to get auctionable item donations from local stores and business in order to make the auction a success. He noted that he would be on travel from early October to November 4th. While he is away members are asked to pass their auction items to President Jules Harper or Vice President Goody Morrison.

Vice President Goody Morrison announced the forming of a new committee to help with procuring additional auction items for our Veteran's Day Party Auction. Volunteers were solicited for the committee. Those interested in joining the committee should contact Goody Morrison as soon as possible. All members are urged to try to secure at least one auctionable item for the event.

Hospitality Committee Chairman Fred Paul provided an update on the menu for our Veteran's Day Dance. It wiil incude tossed salad, an Italian antipasto platter, bread, fruit cookies, coffee, tea and water. Attendees are invited to BYOB. Fred also reminded members to be sure to sign up on the website to attend our breakfast meetings so that the appropriate amount of food may be ordered.

Car Show Chairman Mike Heiserman provided an update on preparations for our annual spring Car Show. He noted that due to the construction of new commercial buildings on the site we would no longer be able to use the Canyon Town Center location for the show. Efforts are ongoing to secure a new venue. Parking lots at Bendners, the Soup Kitchen across from Canyon Town Center and the recently closed Sports Authority near Congress are all under consideratiion.
