Veteran's Club Meeting Minutes From November 10, 2016
The Meeting opened at 1600 with 44 members in attendance. Total club membership is 170.
An informal "Meet and Greet" was held from 1400 to 1420. Beverages at the meeting are now complementary, but donations to help defray the cost are welcomed.
Formal business commenced at 1620 with the "Pledge of Allegiance".
The Secretary's Report was presented and the minutes of last month's meeting were voted on and accepted by the membership.
The Tresurer's Report was presented. Our current balance on hand is $8,522, including $6,600 in payments received for the November Dance Party. The estimated cost of the Dance is $5,000, and we anticipate a profit from the event of approximately $5,500 to donate to the Wounded Warriors Relief Fund. To date 300 people have signed up to attend the Party.
The President's Report was presented. The program and timeline for our Veteran's Day Dance Party was reviewed. The doors wii open at 6:15 PM. Appetizers will be served at 6:50 PM, followed by dessert and coffee later in the evening. The program features introductory remarks by our President, followed by short talks from Wounded Warriors Relief Fund Board Member Sharon Baker, and two Wounded Warriors who have been benefactors of the program. The King's Academy Choir and our Annual Auction will round our the program.
Nelson Kusher solicited volunteers to help with the check-in table at the party.
The Veteran's Picture Project for the event was discussed. Hard copies of the veteran's pictures submitted for the project were made available at the end of today's meeting.
The President noted that our next Breadfast Meeting will be held on Sunday December 11th. This is our formal annual meeting where elections will be held for Officers and Board Members. The following Officers and Board Members are up for re-election for another two year term: Goody Morrison, Steve Rosenthal, Tom Conklin and Mike Tremper. Dave Weissman will be running for the Board and Mike Heiserman will also be up for confirmation as a Board Member. Anyone else who would like to run for Vice President or Treasurer should contact Election Committee Chairman Norm Beck as soon as possible. Also to be voted on at our December meeting is a change in our By-Laws requiring Club Members to be Valencia Reserve residents and be able to present a valid DD214 to confirm their status as veterans.
Our Blood Drive spearheaded by Tom Conklin and Steve Metzger took in 44 pints of whole blood as well as several platelets donations.
Vice President Goody Morrison solicited volunteers to help with the set up for the Veteran's Day Party. Volunteers will meet at 1:30 PM on Veteran's Day to do the final set up arrangements for the event.
Goody also noted that 72 items had been secured for the Veteran's Day Party auction, includiing a cruise for 6 to 8 people on Earl Stewart's 60 foot yacht.
Car Show Chairman Mike Heiserman reported on planning for this year's show scheduled for Sunday March 19, 2017. This year's event will be held at the Buick dealer on Federal Highway. The dealership will cover many of the costs involved and will also provide a grill for hamburgers and hot dogs. This will be a highly visible location that we hope will attract even more cars and participants than in prior years.
President Jules Harper noted that the Wounded Warriors of South Florida has officiallly changed their name to the Wounded Veteran's Relief Fund. The link to their new website is http://wvrf.org/.

Club Member Cal Hunter presented an interesting and informative presentation on his experiences as an Air Force Medic during the Korean War. His talk emphasized his unique extended assignment caring for an important scientist that gave him the opportunity to meet many world famous scientists, political leaders and prominent military personnel. The presentation was well received and was followed by a short question and answer period.
The President noted in his concluding remarks that our next meeting will be a Breakfast Meeting on Sunday December 11, 2016 in the Social Hall. Members were reminded to sign up for the meeting on our website. This will be our annual meeting where elections will be held for Officers and Board Members.
