Meeting opened at 1600 with 30 members in attendance. Total club membership is 170.
An informal "Meet and Greet" was held from 1600 to 1620..
Formal business commenced at 1620 0with the "Pledge of Allegiance".
The Secretary's Report was presented and the minutes of our last meeting were voted upon and accepted by the membership.
The Treasurer's Report was presented. It was noted that we currently have a cash balance on hand in excess of $4,000. This includes funds received for the upcoming Car Show.
The President's Report was presented. It was noted that Board Member Marty Merluzzi has found a buyer for his house and so will be moving out of our Valencia community in the near future. Mike Heiserman has volunteered to be considered to replace him on the Board. Dave Weissman has also expressed interest in being considered. Any members who are also interested in the Board position are invited to contact President Jules Harper.
The President also provided an update on our upcoming Friday March 18th Blood Drive. In addition to whole blood platelates will also be collected for those wishing to donate. Marty Merluzzi and Tom Conklin are the co-chairmen for the event. Additional volunteers were solicited to help escort blood donors from the bus collection point to the clubhouse kitchen for refreshments after they have given blood. Our new canopy tent will be used for the first time at the Blood Drive.
Car Show Co-Chairman Roger Ruddick and Mike Heiserman provided an update on preparations for our Sunday March 20th Car Show to be held in conjunction with the VR Car Club. It was noted that there will be a separate section for Corvettes located adjacent to the main show area. Seventy-eight cars participated in last years event, and we are hoping to have even more cars participate this year. The Car Club will provide experienced judges for the event. Thirty-Six trophies will be awarded. Several businesses have made cash donations in support of the event. Additional volunteers were solicited to help with parking and car registration.
Cape Kennedy Space Center trip chairman Dennis Flier provided an update on the event. Members were polled at the meeting to determine if any additional individuals were interested in the trip. Since no additional interest was expressed, and sign-ups for the trip to date have not yielded enough participants to make the trip viable, the event was cancelled.
Vice President and Polynesian Spring Dance chairman Goody Morrison provided an update on preparations for the Saturday April 30th event. As the result of issues with the caterer the Dance has been changed from a Dinner Dance to a Dessert Party. Entertainment will be provided as originally planned. Accordingly, the cost has been reduced to $25.00 from the original $35.00 per person. Individuals who have already sent in a check for the original amount should note that their checks have not been deposited and will be returned. Checks and completed Table Reservation Forms should be placed in the Veteran's Club mailbox in the clubhouse.
Fleet Week event chairman Goody Morrison provided a briefing on preparations for the May 5th event. Plans call for visiting a guided missile destroyer and possibly a nuclear attack submarine. Visit Security Clearance forms were made available at the meeting. Members and family members who went to last years Fleet Week already have their information on file and will not need to complete another form. Members and family members who did not attend last year will need to complete the Visit Security Clearance form. Forms are available from Goody Morrison or event co-chairman David Weissman. Completed forms should be dropped off at the Veteran's Club mailbox in the clubhouse, or E-Mailed to Goody. It is anticipated that the trip will cost approximately $18.00 per person this year for round trip bus transportation.
Food Drive Chairman Mike Tremper provided an update on the February 25th Veteran's Club Food Drive. He noted that we collected more food this year than we did last year and thanked all those who helped with the drive.
Robin Morrison was recognized by President Jules Harper for her contributions in organizing the auctions at our Veteran's Day Dances for several of the past years.
