Veteran's Club Meeting Minutes From June 11, 2017
Veteran's Club Meeting Minutes From June 11, 2017
Our Sunday breakfast meeting opened at 0900 with 36 members in attendance. Total club membership is 183.
An informal "Meet and Greet" with breakfast was held from 0900 to 0920.
Formal business commenced at 0920 with the "Pledge of Allegiance".
The Secretary's Report was presented and the minutes of our last meeting were voted upon and accepted by the membership.
The Treasurer's Report was presented. It was noted that we currently have a cash balance of $3,266 and a sales tax liability of $225.00. The required IRS form 990 has been filed.
New members in attendance were introduced by the President.
The President's Report was presented. It was noted that a Board meeting will be held immediately following today's general meeting, and that a schedule of next year's meetings has been posted on our website.
A discussion on the start time for future breakfast meetings was held, followed by a vote to keep the start time at 0900 rather than changing it to 0830.
Preparations for our November party were reviewed, and the President noted that details of the party arrangements would be further discussed in detail at today's Board meeting. Due to the availability of the King's Academy Choir the date of the event has been moved from Saturday November 11th to Friday November 10th. The exact cost per person for the event is to be determined, but a survey of meeting attendees suggested that a cost of up to $29.00 per person would be reasonable and would allow for a generous donation to the Wounded Warrior's Relief Fund.
Also discussed was that we were not including a silent auction at this year's party due to the difficulty of obtaining items for auction. However, the live auction will be featured again this year. We are actively exploring the possibility of getting the day trip on Earl Stewart's yacht as an auction item this year, as well as the day with the Sheriff's Office and the included flight on the Sheriff's department helicopter.
Voluteers were solicited for the next flag raising event at the Veteran's Cemetery. The President is continuing his coordination with both the Cemetery and the Motorcycle Club for the event.
Board member Mike Heiserman discussed the Honor Flights for World War II veterans, and noted that the program has been extended to include Korean and Vietnam War veterans as well.
Mike also discussed that we are having a plaque made to recognize the Valencia Reserve Car Club for their contributions to our annual Car Show. We also provided both the Car Club and the Del Ray Buick Dealer with copies of our hard copy book of photographs from the show. The dealership appreciated the books and requested additional copies for their showroom which we provided. They indicated that they are eager to support our Car Show again next year.
President Jules Harper advised that he is looking into booking a 105 year old Lieutanant General who is the oldest living graduate of West Point as a speaker for one of our upcoming meetings.
Jules also distributed forms for the Veteran's Cemetery "Pre-Need Program" and noted that forms could be filled out in advance to guarantee the availablity of internment in the Veteran's Cemetery.
The President also joted that the origin of the 21 gun salute is the sum of the digits in the year "1776".
Vice President Goody Morrison reminded members of the availability of our new Veteran's Club logo athletic shirts and encouaged interested members to place their orders for this new offering.
An interesting and informative presentation was made by Dave Weisman on the World War II Battle of the Bismark Sea. The presentation was well received by our members.
