VR Veterans Club Secretary Secretary Reports

Veteran's Club Meeting Minutes From September 9, 2019

Our breakfast meeting opened at 0900 with 45 members and three guests in. Total club membership is now 202. The cost of the breakfast was $199.00.

An informal "Meet and Greet" with breakfast was held from 0900 to 1000.

Formal business commenced at 1000 with the "Pledge of Allegiance".

The Secretary's Report was presented by the President since the Secretary was on travel. The minutes of our last meeting were voted upon and accepted by the membership.

The Treasurer's Report was presented. Our current balance on hand is approximately $6,000.00. A balance of approximately $3,000.00 will remain after the Veteran's Day Party expenses are paid out. This is the amount that we normally like to have on hand to run the club.

The President's Report was presented. Jules urged all members to do what they can to solicit gifts for the Veteran's Day Party raffel, and noted that the donation letter is on our website under "By-Laws" and can be downloaded to present to potential donors. He reminded all that the date of this year's Veteran's Party is Monday, November 11th in order to accomodate the availability of the King's Academy Choir.

Jules also reminded our members that our next Blood Drive will be held on Friday November 8, from 0900 to 1600. All members were encouraged to donate blood if they are able. Please contact Tom Conlkin or Steve Metzger to arrange a reservation.

Two original one-act plays with military themes writted by Veteran's Club member Mike Kapel were presented, featuring performances by Mike Kapel and Bob Goldenberg. The first play took place in the present day and centered around a former Air Force Aircraft Maintenance Officer who meets with a psychiatrist after experiencing recurring dreams from his past Vietnam War flight line experiences. The second play took place in 1970 in a sports and health club locker room when a recent Air Force Forward Air Controller pilot meets an old friend and ends up relaying a terrifying combat experience in Vietnam. Both plays were well written and performed, and both generated considerable discussion. Both brought back Vietnam memories, both good and bad, for many of our members. Both presentations were well recieved by our members.

The 50/50 raffel was held with $25.00 going to Mike Kapel, and $40.00 going to Mark Schwartz. The raffel yielded $65.00 for the Wounded Warriors Relief Fund.
