Veteran's Club Meeting Minutes From May 9, 2019


Our meeting opened at 1600 with 31 members in attendance. Total club membership is now 202.

An informal "Meet and Greet" was held from 1600 to 1620.  

Formal business commenced at 1620 with the "Pledge of Allegiance". 

The Secretary's Report was presented and the minutes of our last meeting were voted upon and accepted by the membership.

The Treasurer's Report was presented.

The President's Report was presented, and two new members were introduced. Jules noted that the flag raising at the Veteran's Cemetery for the Memorial Day holiday period would be on Wednesday, May 22nd, and the flag lowering would be on Tuesday, June 20th. Members were encouraged to participate in both events. 

Jules thanked Dave Weissman and Erwin Sefton for their hard work in making Fleet Week such a tremendous success. The event was very well attended and enjoyed by all.

Jules noted that we have been having some technical problems with our website which are being addressed and should be remedied soon.

Vietnam veteran Tom Conklin discussed his experiences as an Honoree on the recent Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Vietnam veteran Mark Schwartz is scheduled to go as an Honoree on the next Honor Flight in May. Other eligible members were encoouraged to participate in the program.

Our President noted that we will be having our annual Memorial Day pool party with the HOA on May 27th. The event starts at 2:00 PM. Please wear our club bllue shirt and khaki shorts or swin suit.

Board Member Nelson Cusher made an interesting and informative two part presentation focusing on the ten most intense battles in history, and the ten most lethal special operations units from around the world. The presentation inculded two videos and was well received and was followed by a question and answer period.

The 50/50 raffel was held, generating additional funds for the Wounded Veteran's Relief Fund.

--Veteran's Day Blood Drive: December, date TBD

Scheduled Sunday breakfast meetings for 2019 are indicated below:

--Sunday, September 8, 2019
--Sunday, December 8, 2019
All Sunday breakfast meetings will be held in the Social Hall from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Scheduled Second Thursday of the month meetings for 2019 are indicated below:  
--Thursday. October 10, 2019
--Thursday, November 14, 2019
All Thursday meetings will be held in the Social Hall from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

The President noted in his concluding remarks that our next meeting will be a breakfast meeting
on June 9 at 0900 in the Social Hall. He asked members to sign up for this event so we can get 
the food order correct. He also noted that the next meeting after our July and August summer
break would be a breakfast meeting on September 8 at 9:00 AM to mark the start of our new season.

The meeting concluded at 1720.
