Minutes Veterans Club General Membership December 12, 2021

 

 

The meeting was called to order by President Jules Harper at 10:00 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 40 members in attendance

 The Treasurer’s Report was given by Tom Wood who indicated that there was $5,000 dollars in the treasury.

The Secretary’s Report indicated that the minutes of the previous meeting had been posted to the club’s website. A motion to accept the minutes was made, seconded and approved.

 President Harper announced that there were twelve new members enrolled in the club bringing the total membership to 196.

 Bob Goldenberg and Alan Nordon presented a comedic skit portraying the “Who’s on First” act of Abbot and Costello. This was well received by the audience who laughed and applauded heartily.

 The 50/50 raffle was held and yielded $70.00 to the club.

 The results of the membership Veterans Club voting were announced and the following were elected to office:

            President Jules Harper was replaced by Goody Morrison

            Vice President Mark Schwartz was replaced by Brian Glenn

            Treasurer Tom Wood was replaced by David Weissman

            Secretary Tom Nowak was replaced by Cal Hunter 

 Our new board members are:

            Howard Berger

            David Cohen

            Dennis Flier

            Tom Nowak

            Howard Rock

            Mike Silverman

            Tom Wood

Steve Dictenberg is Sgt. At Arms

 If Brian Glenn wins the election for the HOA he will then step back to the BOD and Howard Berger will assume the role of Vice President.

 Good Morrison assumed his role as President outlined his goals for the year. He recommended a revisit to the newly upgraded Seal Museum and a trip to attend Fleet Week.

He then presented to outgoing President Jules Harper a plaque from the VR Veterans Club to commemorate his nine years of service as President and co-founder of the Veterans Club. The plaque with its inscription recognizes his dedication and devotion to helping wounded veterans and service to the community.

Under his watch $125,000 has been donated to the wounded Veterans Relief Fund.

Goody then discussed plans for the March breakfast and after responses from the membership decided to leave the details to Fred Paul to decide of the format whether to have served breakfast or boxed. Fred Paul will also explore barbecue vendors to plan for the upcoming club dinner.

Ideas for speakers at future meetings were discussed by Goody Morrison who also suggested that he might give a presentation on combat ordinance.  He was trained as a combat engineer and had a specialty in explosives.

Next, the newly elected board members introduced themselves to the membership.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 AM.
